Meet Gabriela Kohr

Meet Gabriela Kohr

Gabriella is a full-time artist based in Laguna Beach, California, but she grew up in the small beach town of Bethany Beach, Delaware. Her art is all about capturing the beauty and complexity of everyday life, pulling inspiration from the people, places, and objects she encounters daily. After earning her BFA from Laguna College of Art & Design in 2020, Gabriella has built a body of work that’s deeply personal and full of life. She primarily paints from life, creating pieces that feel raw and authentic—no filters, no photos, just real moments. Each painting is like a little snapshot of how she sees the world, inviting you to experience the same sense of discovery that drives her creative process.

WHAT DOES CREATIVITY MEAN TO YOU?

For me, creativity is a continuous, flowing energy that I strive to cultivate in my daily life. It's a channel that moves through us, enabling us to create something greater than ourselves. Whether we're working alone or collaborating with others, creativity is an expression of the highest intention—an artful dance of focus and play.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY LIFE LOOK LIKE?

This past year has been unique. Balancing life bi-coastally has given me the chance to spend meaningful time with my family on the East Coast, while still staying connected with my friends and chosen family in California. Now that I’m settled here on the East Coast, I’m finding a new rhythm, and I thought I’d share a little glimpse of my day today. I woke up with the sun and headed straight
for my coffee—it's a ritual I cherish. I took it to my studio, where the morning light
streamed through the French doors, and the sounds of birds outside filled the air. After some quiet journaling, I dove straight into painting. There’s something about starting my day with a brush in hand. It doesn’t matter if the end result is exactly what I envisioned—or even if it’s good or bad. For me, it’s the act of showing up, putting in the work, and allowing myself to push and pull the paint that sparks my joy. It’s the process itself—the doing—that brings me happiness, no matter the outcome.

DESCRIBE THE FEELING WHEN YOU ARE IN A CREATIVE FLOW?

Ah, the creative flow—my favorite place to be. For me, it’s about letting creativity unfold naturally, through me and right before my eyes. I’ve become very intentional about acting on those bursts of inspiration as quickly as possible.
It’s funny how ideas can come out of nowhere, but I’ve learned to harness those moments. When I work from this place of intention, it sets me up for a great flow, allowing things to work themselves out. It pushes me to try new things while also giving space for the creative process to run freely. Whether the idea turns out to be good or bad, that sense of intentionality helps me stay in the flow and allows creativity to move through me with ease.

WHO OR WHAT DO YOU DRESS FOR EVERYDAY?

I dress for myself, focusing on timeless style, quality, and comfort. Always on the go and often in the studio, I choose outfits that fit the day’s needs, but these three principles guide everything I wear. When sourcing vintage pieces, I prioritize natural fibers over synthetics, as understanding their value has made me more intentional about what I put on my body. I feel my best in clothing that feels good and is made from beautiful, sustainable materials. As the weather cools, my collection of vintage cashmere sweaters—my ultimate weakness—continues to grow. I always recommend cashmere to my clients for its perfect blend of luxury and everyday wearability.
